What is reflexology?
Reflexology is a gentle complementary therapy that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet. These points are believed to correspond with different parts of the body. The aim is to encourage deep relaxation, reduce stress and support your body’s natural balance and wellbeing.
What happens during a reflexology treatment?
Your first appointment begins with a discussion about your general health, lifestyle and any concerns you’d like to address. You’ll then relax in a comfortable reclining chair while your shoes and socks are removed. Nicola will apply gentle pressure techniques to different areas of your feet during a treatment lasting approximately 60 minutes.
Is reflexology painful?
Most people find reflexology deeply relaxing and many even fall asleep during their treatment. Occasionally, a sensitive area on the foot may feel tender, but this is usually brief and the pressure can always be adjusted to ensure your comfort.
What conditions can reflexology help with?
People choose reflexology for many reasons, including:
- Stress and anxiety
- Poor sleep
- General relaxation
- Fatigue
- Hormonal changes
- Supporting overall wellbeing
Reflexology is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure medical conditions. It is a complementary therapy that works alongside conventional healthcare.
How many sessions will I need?
Everyone is different. Some people notice a positive difference after just one treatment, while others benefit most from a series of sessions. Nicola will discuss your individual circumstances and recommend a treatment plan that best suits your needs.
When will I notice the effects of reflexology?
Every person responds differently to reflexology, and there is no set timeline.
Some clients feel calmer, lighter or more relaxed immediately after their appointment. Others notice improvements over the following few days, while some experience more gradual changes after several treatments.
It’s also common to feel pleasantly tired after a session, while others leave feeling energised and refreshed. Because every body is unique, reflexology can affect people in different ways and at different speeds. Nicola will always encourage you to listen to your body and allow it time to respond naturally.
Can I feel different after a reflexology session?
Yes. Many clients feel deeply relaxed, sleep particularly well or notice an increased sense of wellbeing following treatment.
Some people may also experience temporary responses such as feeling emotional, thirsty, tired or more aware of their body’s natural rhythms. These reactions are generally short-lived and are considered a normal response as your body adjusts after a relaxing treatment.
Drinking plenty of water and taking things a little easier for the rest of the day can help you get the most from your session.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to relax. Only your shoes and socks need to be removed during treatment.
Is reflexology suitable during pregnancy?
Pregnancy reflexology may be suitable depending on your stage of pregnancy and medical history. If you are pregnant, please mention this when booking so Nicola can discuss whether treatment is appropriate for you.
(Only include this if Nicola is qualified in pregnancy reflexology.)
Can reflexology replace medical treatment?
No. Reflexology is a complementary therapy and should never replace advice or treatment from your GP or other healthcare professional. If you have any health concerns, you should always seek appropriate medical advice.
Is reflexology safe?
For most people, reflexology is a safe and relaxing therapy. Before treatment, Nicola will ask about your medical history to ensure reflexology is suitable for you. In some circumstances, treatment may need to be adapted or postponed.
How long does a reflexology appointment last?
Appointments typically last around 60 minutes, allowing time for consultation, treatment and any aftercare advice.
